Need More Proof Being Gay Isn’t a Choice? Here It Is!

Is being gay a choice? A popular vlogger from California proves it’s not.

If you don’t know who Chris Thompson is yet, just wait: Thompson, who happens to be straight, is getting all kinds of attention for posing a simple question to his followers, many who identify as LGBT. The question: Is being gay a choice?

Thompson was moved to ask his followers about homosexuality after watching a shocking video made by Daniel Pearce, a 19 year old from Georgia. In the video, Pearce is more or less disowned by his family after coming out to them. His family even goes as far as telling him to move out, and the argument escalates with profanities and even physical abuse against the teen by his own family.

What also sparked Thompson’s curiosity to ask his followers about it was a statement that is heard on the video. A lady says, “You know you wasn’t born that way. You know you made that choice.”

Here are some of the responses Thompson received:

– “Being gay is not a choice. No one would choose to be gay and go through all the ridicule.”

– “It’s far from a choice. It’s how you are born. You cannot control who you develop feelings for and who you find attractive.”

– “Of course it’s not a choice! When did you choose to be straight? Why would you want to throw yourself against the current of society?”

– “Nobody would choose to become a second class citizen and to get death threats and not be accepted by their own family.”

– “With such an anti-homosexuality society, I’d rather choose to be straight (sadly saying). But I’m proud of myself for being gay, for being me.”

– “Growing up I would have chosen straight if I could so the ass kicking would have stopped.”

There you have it, right from the very people who know better than anyone else because they are gay and they didn’t choose.

Thompson says, “If you think being gay is a choice and you want to hide behind the Bible, show me the verse where God says being Gay is a choice. Cite your source.”
It is fascinating how the religious community manipulates the masses with its interpretations of the Bible. How does anyone know what the authors of the Bible were thinking, much less God himself?

There are those who claim it’s about protecting the integrity of what’s written in the Bible. This is one of the most ridiculous claims ever made since the Bible is full of evil acts and suggestions we choose to ignore. Where is the integrity in that?

The point is American society is still suffering from its puritanical roots, and many of our citizens refuse to accept anything that contradicts our cultural norms. The worst offenders are the zealots who claim “God hates fags,” and that homosexuals are flawed or immoral human beings.

As Harvey Milk, the first openly gay person to be elected to public office and a martyr in the gay community, said, “The fact is that more people have been slaughtered in the name of religion than for any other single reason. That my friends, that is true perversion!”

As Thompson says, “Regardless of your sexuality, be proud of who you are. Don’t let people like this (Pearce’s family) make you afraid to be who you are.”

Right now, 19 states, the District of Columbia, and ten Native American tribal jurisdictions issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. We’ve made great strides in the fight for equality, but there are still too many people who believe that homosexuality is a choice, and worse, that homosexuals are unworthy of respect and opportunities that straight people have.

Critical thinking tells us whether you believe in gay by genes or gay by choice, the ‘why’ doesn’t really matter. What’s more important is that America grows up and welcomes everyone into our culture as equals, and allows people to live their lives on their own terms, regardless of their sexual preference. Gay rights will continue to win more acceptance and become the law of the land everywhere, and with it must die the hatred, bigotry and discrimination.

Perhaps Milk said it best: “Rights are won only by those who make their voices heard.”

If more people have the courage and mental toughness of Daniel Pearce to stand up for who they really are, more rights, freedoms and opportunities will continue to come to those who identify as LGBT.

Obama Urges Boy Scouts to End Ban on Gays – President Should Take More Action

The Boy Scouts of America have delayed its decision on whether or not to lift the ban on gays in the organization, saying the issue is too complex and requires more time to study. Today’s announcement is nothing more than a stall tactic and an unfortunate setback in the fight for equality.

Even the President disagrees with the Boy Scouts. In an interview with CBS News anchor Scott Pelley last weekend, President Obama said that he believes the Boy Scouts of America should end its ban on gays.

Obama said, “My attitude is that gays and lesbians should have access and opportunity the same way everybody else does, in every institution and walk of life. The Scouts are a great institution that is promoting young people and exposing them to opportunities and leadership that will serve people for the rest of their lives, and I think that nobody should be barred from that.”

The president’s words come after the announcement last week when the Boy Scouts said it was considering reversing its ban on gays. It appears perhaps that after the outcry from former scouts who are gay, gay activist groups around the country and a plethora of negative publicity, that finally the organization will update its policies and enter the 21st century. Unfortunately, that decision has now been delayed until May.

This latest public support on behalf of the President is indeed outstanding; however, it’s not enough. Barak Obama, like every other person elected to the presidency serves as the honorary chairman of the Boy Scouts. They say actions speak louder than words, and if the President really wants to make a bold statement, instead of playing lip service to the issue, he should renounce his post as honorary chairman effective immediately. Imagine the uproar this would cause around the country, and imagine how much pressure this would put on the Scouts to do the right thing and reverse its policy.

What if the Boy Scouts decided to ban blacks?  Do you think Obama would still be honorary chairman? Of course not! What’s the difference between discrimination based on color and discrimination based on sexual orientation? The answer, of course, is the bible, which always gets a free pass.

About 70 percent of all Boy Scout troops are sponsored by faith-based organizations, with the Southern Baptists, Catholic Church, Lutheran Church, United Methodist Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints representing the most troops, according to Fox News.

Roger Oldham, spokesman for the Southern Baptist Convention, had this to say about the situation: “Churches of all faiths and denominations, including Southern Baptist churches, will be forced to reevaluate whether they can, in good conscience, continue to host Scout troops given that the Scouts appear poised to turn their backs on this clear biblical and moral issue.”

American society is clearly still suffering from its puritanical roots, and many of our citizens refuse to accept anything that contradicts our cultural norms. People like Mr. Oldham can try and defend the bible all they want, saying that God isn’t accepting of the gay lifestyle. My critical thinking question is where does the bible say that sexually abusing young boys is permissible? The Catholic Church has a long history of getting away with it, and not too long ago files were released showing the Boy Scouts hid hundreds of cases of sexual abuse by senior leaders between 1970 and 1991.

It fascinates me how the religious community manipulates the masses with its interpretations of the Bible. If you want to play that game, what about 1 John 3:15 that says,” Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.”  Or what about Romans 2:11 that says,” For God shows no partiality.”

The bottom line: it’s time for America to grow up and welcome everyone into our culture as an equal. Does it really matter if someone is attracted to a member of the same sex? It doesn’t, and we as American citizens have the responsibility to make sure organizations like The Boy Scouts aren’t spewing their homophobia to our children.

The Boy Scouts are an American institution, and have long been a part of building leadership, character and charisma in our nation’s youth, but from the organization that claims to be “one of the nation’s most prominent values-based organizations,” one can’t help but question what kind of values they are teaching our kids if they are discriminating against gays? The values that come to mind are hate, bigotry and discrimination.

Party at the Playboy Mansion: Immoral?

I just returned from attending Hugh Hefner’s Halloween Party at Playboy Mansion in Hollywood where we raised $5.4 million for charity. The press was not allowed inside the party, but some of them called this event immoral because it was held at the iconic epicenter of the sexual revolution. Watch this short video I taped  in Beverly Hills and I’ll look forward to your comments.     Steve Siebold

Does Al Gore Really Believe Hurricane Sandy was Caused by The Climate Crisis?

In a Huffington Post article last Tuesday, former Vice President Al Gore, who today is chairman of the Alliance for Climate Protection, a non-profit he founded to educate citizens in the U.S. and around the world about solutions to the climate crisis, said that Hurricane Sandy was strengthened by the climate crisis and blamed “dirty water for creating dirty weather.”

In the past 100 years, the earth has warmed. The question is whether or not the problem is manmade or a natural variation in the climate system. Al Gore has said in the past, “The earth has a fever,” but that doesn’t mean the fever is being caused by greenhouse gas emissions.

Experts and scientists have been debating this issue for decades. In 1988, the United Nations created the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which has delivered inconclusive results. John Coleman, Meteorologist and founder of the Weather Channel, has been a long-time critic of the IPCC. Coleman says, “The only proof of the IPCC hypothesis was the computer model predictions. There is no evidence to support the claim of significant man made global warming.” Many experts agree.

On the other side of the argument are scientists who are convinced global warming is the result of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels like oil, gas and coal, and some believe if we don’t reverse it soon it could be the end of the world.

Polls show that fewer people today believe in manmade global warming than they did 10 years ago. Piers Corbyn, founder of the Weather Action Foundation, says, “Global Warming is delusional nonsense founded on fraud. The IPCC should be closed down.”

No matter which side of the argument you’re on, one thing is for certain: In the 24 years of its existence, the IPCC has failed to prove manmade global warming. “I think global warming will turn out to be a disgrace to the scientific community and the environmental movement,” says Dr. Richard Lindzen, a prominent physicist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Many experts argue that correlation does not equal causation, in this context referring to the fact that just because the earth’s temperature is getting warmer and we are using more carbon doesn’t mean carbon is the cause. The bottom line is that the evidence is inconclusive. The delusional thinking is that the issue of global warming is about saving the planet. It’s clearly not. When you dive deeper into the debate, it becomes glaringly apparent that this is about money, and lots of it. Enough money to take over the world, and some experts believe the major proponents of the global warming movement are trying to do just that.

One major physicist I talked to, who made me promise not to reveal his name due to receiving multiple death threats, said, “If you control the carbon, you control the planet.” John Coleman calls it “The greatest scam in history.”  Dr. Richard Lindzen of M.I.T. agrees, and he says, “The agenda is raising taxes, money, and gaining control over people’s lives. The more you scare them the faster they will comply.”

The Bible does it with the threat of damnation while the groupies of global warming are doing it with doomsday scenarios. Nothing moves the masses like fear, and history has proven this. If those seeking control and power can sell two billion people on the philosophy of a book written in the first century with no evidence, anything is possible. Trillions of dollars are at stake, as well as the control over our daily lives.

The man at the top of the controversy is Maurice Strong, a former United Nations power broker turned billionaire. His critics say his motive is to use global warming to establish a world government. George Hunt, an environmentalist and former associate of Strong’s says, “Global warming is a front to take over the world. It’s all about money and power.”

The premise of the world domination idea is that the people in power want to replace the dollar and every other currency with a one world currency, and the people that control the currency will control the world. If this sounds like a science fiction conspiracy theory, think again. All you have to do is observe how much power the Federal Reserve has over the money supply,  and many of their actions are unregulated, which is why people like Ron Paul want to abolish the Fed.

Countries with their own currency can control their own money supply. If the world only had one currency, 99.9 percent of us would be at the mercy of the .001 percent in control. It’s a scary scenario at best, but it’s something all of us must be educated about and aware of.

Critical thinking says anytime you want to find the source of corruption, all you have to do is follow the money trail. The more panic the power mongers can create, the more control they accumulate. It doesn’t matter if it’s man made religion or made up science, as long as there’s money to be made or control to acquire, there will always be people willing to lie, cheat and steal to get it.

Going back to Al Gore’s theory on Hurricane Sandy; A hurricane forms when the following conditions are present:

  •  Low-pressure system
  •  Warm temperatures over the Ocean (naturally warm conditions of the summer months)
  •  Moist environment (precipitation)
  •  Tropical wind patterns over the equator

Critical thinking says hurricanes will continue to form and cause massive devastation, a guarantee that is up there with death and taxes.  Regardless of what Al Gore and others say we can do to prevent these acts of nature from occurring, the best bet is to be prepared as much as possible to survive these dangerous storms when they do strike.

As always, I look forward to your comments.

Let Chicago’s Teachers Walk and Abolish The Union

Thousands of kids headed back to the classroom this week in the Chicago-land area, but how long will it last? A potential strike could take place in as little as six days if the Chicago Teacher’s Union and school district officials don’t reach an agreement on the terms of a new contract – including a four percent pay increase that Mayor Rahm Emanuel rescinded.

Just last year, a similar situation unfolded in Madison, Wisconsin, as teachers stormed the capitol building protesting Governor Scott Walker for eliminating collective bargaining rights – a protest I witnessed firsthand and spoke to several teachers about.

The teachers in Wisconsin who I spoke to all told me they had the right to collective bargaining and to their jobs. When I asked them where job performance fit into the equation, I barely got a reply. They looked at me as though they didn’t understand the question. That’s one of the biggest problems unions create: that members believe they have a right to a job, like it’s an entitlement awarded at birth.

It’s the same situation in Chicago. The state of Illinois has an unemployment rate of 8.9%, and the teachers there should be thankful for their jobs. Let the teachers strike!  And if they do, I can promise you there are plenty of unemployed teachers who are sitting at home right now trying to figure out how to make ends meet, who would be ready to fill those vacancies in a heartbeat – at the current rate of pay.

What’s worse is the real losers in this scenario are the children. We’re talking about roughly 400,000 students who are in jeopardy. Not only could a strike put them behind, it could have long-term ramifications that could include delaying the college admissions process – but right, it’s all about the money.

Union workers have become spoiled with tenure and guaranteed work based on every factor outside of job performance and results. Don’t get me wrong: there was a time when employers abused their power and unions leveled the playing field through leverage. They gave the little guy a voice, and it worked. Joe Lunch Bucket, who 20 years ago needed a union to be heard, now has the power to cause a national uproar if he is mistreated in any way. This is a good thing, yet we have a new problem: The Union leaders and members who refuse to give up their stranglehold on industry and government.

The abuse of power is now coming from the unions instead of employers. The private sector has weeded out most of this nonsense in recent years, with unions only representing 7.5% of private sector employees. The public sector is still bloated with 43% of public employees represented by unions. Unions are another archaic American institution that served a purpose in a bygone era and should be buried with the dead. Fortunately, the days of businesses running rough-shod over workers are gone. In the era of Twitter, Facebook, cell phones with cameras and 24 hour news, the power is in the hands of the people.

If the teachers of Chicago want to earn more money, bullying their employer with a mob isn’t the answer. Production is. More service equals more money. The future belongs to the states who become Right to Work states, where unions have no power and cannot bully businesses into hiring workers simply because they live in the neighborhood and pay dues.

The delusional thinking on unions is that they are necessary in modern-day America. Critical thinking says they served their purpose in the past and it’s time for them to go.

As always, I look forward to your comments.

President Obama Needs to Step Down as Honorary President of The Boy Scouts of America

President Obama says he disagrees with a ban on gays in the Boy Scouts, despite serving as that organization’s honorary president. If Obama disagrees that strongly in the Boy Scout’s decision, he should resign as honorary president immediately.

Here’s what critical thinking says:

  • It’s hypocrisy and sending the wrong message.  If the president wants to make a statement, he should not only talk the talk, but walk it, too.  He should resign as honorary president of the Boy Scouts organization immediately, which would really make an impact that it’s time we treat gays as equals.

  • Former Eagle Scouts are sending back their medals to the organization to protest the ban on gays, which is more than Obama is doing.  These scouts worked extremely hard for those honors, and parting with those medals isn’t easy.  The president needs to take stronger action as well, and resigning from his post would help shake up the Boy Scout’s decision.

  • Obama is playing the middle on this one and engaging in two-facedness behavior, and you can bet that Mitt Romney is going to use it as ammunition.  Obama has already said he supports gay marriage, but it’s time he backs those words up with action so they’re just not words.  Any politician can talk a good game, but what are you doing to back it up Mr. President?

I look forward to your comments.
