President Obama says he disagrees with a ban on gays in the Boy Scouts, despite serving as that organization’s honorary president. If Obama disagrees that strongly in the Boy Scout’s decision, he should resign as honorary president immediately.
Here’s what critical thinking says:
- It’s hypocrisy and sending the wrong message. If the president wants to make a statement, he should not only talk the talk, but walk it, too. He should resign as honorary president of the Boy Scouts organization immediately, which would really make an impact that it’s time we treat gays as equals.
- Former Eagle Scouts are sending back their medals to the organization to protest the ban on gays, which is more than Obama is doing. These scouts worked extremely hard for those honors, and parting with those medals isn’t easy. The president needs to take stronger action as well, and resigning from his post would help shake up the Boy Scout’s decision.
- Obama is playing the middle on this one and engaging in two-facedness behavior, and you can bet that Mitt Romney is going to use it as ammunition. Obama has already said he supports gay marriage, but it’s time he backs those words up with action so they’re just not words. Any politician can talk a good game, but what are you doing to back it up Mr. President?
I look forward to your comments.
