Enjoyed All the various discussions by category in “Sex” of SRP. I was delighted with all
the options. Taking the guilt out of peoples’ mind and life is where mental health
begins.
In the first section of SRP I would like to have seen “Single”(by choice) as a category
So many people would probably like to be single by choice but the world as we know it is arranged for pairs. Yet there are many people who are single either
having never ‘married’ and choosing not to ever
remarry. Some people would simply like to remain single. A design, a comment, for their life would be good. It existis, it happens. Single people have a lot to contribute…no, I am not single, but have friends who are and they feel like they
should be. Many people marry to fit in and the pressure is on to marry. I would like to have the pressure off. My uncle was a professor and said to me when I was 16 “You know, you don’t have to marry”. He never did and had a good life. He relied on his many freinds and his neices and nepehws…and then retreated into his
world of academics. I have two daughters and am trying/ have tried to raise them to be independent, to rely on themselves, and to find joy equally in work as well
as family life.
Frankly, although SPR is ‘controversial’ everything seems natural
and full of common sense so far. The fact that so many people must behave in a clandestine way probably adds to their fun. I agree wholeheartedly that
the church needs to control lives….no control, no flock.. Frankly it is their Achilles
tendon – as the Catholics well know. Ireland, for one, is a model. They have had a fine educational system for decades and are leaving the church in the thousands. I made up my mind when I was about…
erm…five that organized religion was seriously dull but for the music and mentally
and emotionally tuned out. The church should be a refuge not some place filled
with one more adult who doles out rules that noone can possibly obey. People
want love and guidance and to be able to ask questions, I believe. I for one do
not someone telling me how to live.
As for the treatment of women, indeed it is too true and too sad. The church should be leading the way in equality. Now that women can
write checks and support institutions, they have a growing chance to influence the world in many areas including the church. Now that technology demands more workers, women have a better chance at independence thorugh employment.
A movie/book by Sinclair Lewis that addresses the subject of SPR very well, is Elmer Gantry. The book is much better as it shows the nuances that the movie
can’t. I loved the book and was riveted by it even 50 years after first seeing the
movie as a kid. Not for nothing that Sinclair Lewis won the Nobel Prize for LIterature.
Keep up the great work at GoveSiebold. The world could use more critical thinking….we’d all be a lot happier. I am going to go ahead with the next chapters
and am wondering what role television will play. “How the Rich Think” and “177 Mentally Tough Secrets of the World Class” have been mind/life changing. I welcome any atttempt at exposing the middle classes – all of us – to new ways of seeing the world expresed in common sense language. I like Michael Lewis for
that reason, too. He brings a readable and understandable style to complex problems as well. We have a choice via internet and mass communications to get a great
overview of how the world works now and I leap at any chance. I choose what I
read verrry carefully – books are one of the top five people I spend my time with 🙂
Thanks GoveSiebold for sticking your neck out ! My guess is you’re having a lot of fun with this book.

Thanks, Christin. I think you and I are on the same page!
Good suggestion about including single by choice. I never thought of that.
Yes, we’re having a blast with the book! The American media is going wild. I hope it opens a few minds.
Thanks for weighing in!
